Become a reliable transporter that isn’t the following:
1. Late all the fucking time
2. Cancels last minute
3. Insistent that they can carry a $250,00 car when they’re insured only for $50,000.
Literally if you can be all 3, you’ll become a multi millionaire overnight

I have had one car transported and I hated it. They straight lied to me about delivery and about downtimes and repairs. When I booked with them I said, “look i will ONLY book with you if you can promise me it wont be here after ____”
Yes, I can do that.
“you sure, its really important.”
Yes.
*a few days and MANY calls later*
Oh sorry, yeah im broke down in Idaho I will be a few days late.
*looks at provided tracker notices they are in Washington state still*

i found a super clean 94 Ford Explorer with a 5speed manual out in the PNW and debated buying it and shipping it here to chicago but i think with all the shipping horror stories ive heard flying out and driving it back would be cheaper and easier

It would certainly be the more fun option.

we were waiting for a prototype vehicle to be shipped back from a test facility. Was informed at the last minute that it would be delayed because the truck which was transporting it broke down.

Bummer. My better half has said she's up for it, but I can't afford it at the moment.

Me to specialty branch of large firm
: “I want it shipped enclosed please.”
Arrives on enclosed trailer, completely covered in bugs, with a chip in the windshield
.
Because they shipped it enclosed to Depot A. Depot A sent it open flatbed to Depot B. Depot B transferred back to enclosed for final destination. They refused to pay for the windshield because “it was transported enclosed like we said and you can’t prove otherwise
.”
Me to biggest local ‘we can
tow anything’
company: “bring a
FLATBED. A larger
one
. It’s AWD and 7000lbs.”
Attempt 1, F250 repo-recoverer. NOPE. Attempt 2, F450 hook. NOPE. Attempt 3, Nissan UD rollback. Guy looks at the rollback, looks at the doorjamb... attempt FOUR. Driver calls and asks how to get a CLASS 8 ROLLBACK to us because he can’t make the turns. Not knowing that ATTEMPT FIVE is about to pull up. Attempt 5 is the right truck, right capacity, right equipment, and as he’s winching it up... Attempt 6 pulls up.
Me to broker
: “it needs to be at this location, after this time and before this time. I will not be
there BEFORE this time so they won’t be able to unload.
” “Oh yeah, no problem, we will be there after X and before Y
.”
I arrive to find the correct trailer and truck and an irate driver who has been sitting around for 4 hours. Because they only told him ‘before Y
’ and did not tell him ‘AFTER X
.’

I can’t be too mad at the local guys because they were just as concerned with doing the job right. That, and they managed to do all that in 2 hours from the initial dispatch call . And they aren’t fighting for tows, they’re hourly fleet. Which t ells you how FUBAR their dispatch is half the time.

A family member has a business that requires getting a trucker 3-5 times a year. for over 15 years it was the same guy, then he retired. For the last 5, I don’t think I’ve ever seen the same guy twice . Typically we would have 5-7 guys to unload. One time I had to swing by the office first, only to watch the trucker pull in.
Me “umm you’re not supposed to be here”.
Trucker “well I went to address” (points to invoice)
Looks at en velope, sees both shipping, and billing listed. Looks at outside of envelope with shipping address writt en again and circled.
“this is where you have to go”
“how do I get out of here? ”
“how did you get in here ? ”
tell him his best bet is to go 1/4 mile down the road and take the first right. I take off expecting him to go down, and turn around. Dissapears for 30 minutes. meanwhile everyone else at the site has been standing around for an hour.

Sounds to me like a business opportunity.
